About Lorem Ipsum

Lorem ipsum is dummy text used in design and publishing to fill a layout before the real content is ready. Because it looks like natural language but cannot be read, it keeps attention on fonts, spacing and layout instead of on the words.

It comes from De finibus bonorum et malorum, written by Cicero in 45 BC, scrambled so that it no longer makes sense. Typesetters have used it since the 1500s, and it became standard in desktop publishing software in the 1980s.
